Team GB unveils Stella McCartney-designed 2016 Rio Olympics Kit

With just 100 days to go until the start of the Rio Olympics, Great Britain have unveiled their brand new kit for the occasion.

Designed by Stella McCartney – who also created Team GB’s iconic London 2012 Union flag kits – this year’s offering seeks to balance the demand for sportswear that ticks all the technical boxes with an aesthetic designed to make an impact.

The palette, which features a British coat of arms and includes exaggerated flashes of red – a response to those who criticised the 2012 kit on account of it being “too blue” – results in a brighter and more aesthetically intricate kit than in Team GB’s 2012 campaign.

Athletes who modelled the new Adidas kit included heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill, diver Tom Daley, and triathlete brothers Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee.

McCartney said she hoped her kits made the British athletes “look and feel like champions on and off the field”, adding: “The inspiration behind the design was this idea of contrasting British tradition with a modern attitude.”

At Champions Olympic Speakers we are proud to boast a number of athletes who have got the chance to model the Team GB kit on numerous occasions and will look to wear the latest offering this summer.

One such talent is swimmer Jack Burnell. The first British athlete to qualify directly for the 2016 Games, he finished fifth in July 2015’s World Championship 10km marathon swimming event in Kazan, Russia.

Jack’s achievements include coming fourth at the European juniors in Helsinki (1500m), fourth at the European juniors open water in Holland (5,000), second at the USA open championships (800m), being ranked second in Great Britain (1500m) and first for his age in the 1500m and open water.

Another athlete who will be in Rio this summer is Nicola Adams MBE, the first boxer to represent England and the first ever winner of the Olympic women’s boxing gold medal.

A pioneer of women’s boxing, Nicola’s overall medal tally stands at six golds and four silvers, and with the Leeds-born fighter expected to take her gloves to Brazil’s main city, the opportunity for further gongs is ripe for the taking.
