Where do athletes begin? For gymnast and Olympic speaker Hannah Whelan, her career started when she used to cartwheel around her house and her mother finally gave in and took her to a gym class. The rest, as the cliché goes, is history.
Born in Singapore, Hannah has her hometown in Stockport, Cheshire, here she has lived since she was two years old (except for a two-year gap when she lived in Texas). In 2008, when she was 16, Hannah went on to represent England and Great Britain. She did this until 2015, after which she retired and began a new career as an Olympic speaker.
Among the highlights of Hannah’s career are two bronze medals at the 2012 European Championships in Brussels – one for the balance beam and one for the floor exercise (her specialities) – followed by a silver in the team competition at the 2014 games in Sofia.
At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, also in 2014, Hannah won a bronze medal in the all-around competition and a gold medal in the team competition. She uses her experience at the very top of her sport to deliver presentations that never fail to intrigue and fascinate any kind of audience at any type of event.
