Katie Archibald is best known for cycling with the Great Britain and Scotland teams. At the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Katie forged a promising reputation as part of the victorious Great Britain team, claiming the gold medal in the team pursuit. With such a promising reputation, Katie is working towards the dream of competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Katie first began competing in cycling in 2011, initially on grass tracks. Later in 2012, she progressed onto the hard track, continually developing and nurturing her skills. After showing promise Katie was recruited to join the British Cycling Academy, giving her further opportunity to develop her skills. After intense training, Katie made her debut for the Great Britain cycling team during the 2013 European Track Championships, competing alongside stars such as Laura Kenny, Dani King and Elinor Barker. With the help of her teammates, she went on to secure the gold medal as well as twice breaking the world record.
Her next success was achieved at the 2013/14 Track World Cup, claiming both silver and bronze medals. She was also recalled to the Great Britain team at the competition, becoming part of the quartet who returned victorious with another gold medal and another world record in the team pursuit. After time with the Great Britain team, Katie participated in the sport for Scotland, becoming Scotland’s first female track cycling world champion. She later went on to compete at the Commonwealth Games for Scotland, achieving the bronze medal in the points race.
In 2015 she competed at the European Track Championships, claiming the title of triple European Champion. Katie went on to attend the European Track Championships for the next 4 four years, claiming a gold medal every year along with five silver medals and one bronze. Such performance saw her land a position in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, one of her greatest successes to this date.
