Lizzie Armistead

Olympic medallist and track and road racing champion

Lizzie Armistead

Currently sitting at the top of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) World Tour rankings, Lizzie Armitstead is an Olympic speaker and professional track and road racing cycling champion.

In 2016 Lizzie defended her Trofeo Alfredo Binda title to claim her second UCI World Tour win of the season. She crossed the line one second in front of American Boels-Dolmans team-mate Megan Guarnier. The win was Lizzie’s fifth in a row in races that she completed.

Just in the last two years, the Olympic speaker has come first in so many races. Apart from the Trofeo Alfredo Binda, 2015 saw Lizzie win the UCI Road Race World Championships, the Overall UCI Women’s Road World Cup, the British National Road Race Championships, the Overall Ladies Tour of Qatar, the Boels Rental Hills Classic, the Philadelphia Cycling Classic, the GP de Plouay, and Stage 1 of The Women’s Tour. Other achievements in that year saw her come second in the Strade Bianche and third at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. However, in 2016 she righted these slips in her winning and streak and came first in both the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the Strade Bianche.

Lizzie’s wins are too many to list here but highlights include a road race silver at the 2012 Olympic Games, a road race gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and a silver four years earlier at the same event. In track cycling in the World Championships, she won a gold in the team pursuit, a silver in the scratch and a bronze in the points race in 2009, as well as silver medals in the team pursuit and omnium the following year.
