Richard Hounslow

Slalom canoeist who won silver at the London 2012 Olympics

Slalom canoeist and Olympic speaker Richard Hounslow is probably best known as the former European and World Champion in the C-2 (men’s canoe double) and K-1 (kayak single) categories. However, perhaps, more importantly, he was the winner of a silver medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games in the C-2 event, working with David Florence.

Richard’s total medals haul comes to an extremely impressive 20 – as well as the three gold medals, he has won six silvers and 11 bronzes. On top of his two Olympic silvers, nine of his medals have come in the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships and another nine at the European Championships. Having tasted success throughout his career, Hounslow often discusses the drive and determination required to achieve goals.

As an Olympic speaker, Richard Hounslow is able to draw upon his experiences at the very top of an incredibly competitive and physically demanding sport. Being a slalom canoeist entails being able to master tricky circuits in a kayak on your own while also being a team player when sharing a canoe with a partner. He often discusses the importance of teamwork in both sports and businesses, expressing that working together is vital towards being successful.

Richard is able to portray the benefits of being self-motivated and being able to focus and work independently. He also reflects on the importance of people accepting their own responsibility and the importance of being able to compensate for one another should anything go on. Richard discusses working as a team in order to achieve goals from both a personal and business perspective.
