david murdoch

As a competitor for Scotland, Olympic speaker and curling specialist David Murdoch has won seven gold medals, four silvers and four bronzes. Among these is his memorable silver medal at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games held in Sochi, Russia. Just 12 days after this career-defining event, David lost his father, putting competitiveness and success into a new perspective.

David’s curling gold medals came in the World Championships of 2006 and 2009; the European Championships of 2003, 2007 and 2008; and the World Junior Championships of 1995 and 1996. His silver medals came in the World Championships of 2005 and 2008; the World Junior Championships of 1998; and the European Championships of 2006. David’s bronze medals were won at the World Championships of 2010 and 2013 and at the European Championships of 2005 and 2013.

In all, the Olympic speaker made seven World Championship appearances between 2005 and 2015, 11 European Championship appearances between 2003 and 2013 and three Olympic appearances between 2006 and the medal-winning 2014.

Another noteworthy event in David Murdoch’s life is that he and his father saw Pan AM flight 103 explode over Lockerbie in 1988 when he was just 10 years old. Amazingly, he has put that terrible, life-changing tragedy behind him and gone on to become one of Great Britain’s most famous Olympians.
