Speaker Showcase: Sir Chris Hoy MBE

Sir Chris Hoy Great Britain has produced a truly wondrous array of record-breaking Olympians in virtually every different discipline there is and has been, from athletics to shooting.

To be described as your country’s most successful Olympic athlete of all time, however, is an achievement unto itself. This honour belongs to our generation and, best of all, the individual who achieved it did so in front of his home fans.

Step forward Sir Chris Hoy MBE.

The Edinburgh-born cyclist won his first Olympic gold medal in Athens 2004 in the Kilo – an event that was dropped from the programme for Beijing 2008.

Chris, however, took this in his stride and switched his focus to three other track sprint events – the Keirin, Sprint and Team Sprint. He went on to win a gold medal in all three at the Beijing Olympics, cementing his name in the history books.

Chris HoyFollowing his historic hat-trick of gold medals at the Beijing Olympics, Chris was voted 2008 BBC Sports Personality of the Year. He was also awarded a Knighthood in the 2009 New Year Honours list.

In 2012 at his home Olympic Games in London, Chris was Great Britain’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony, a joyous moment that proved just how important and venerated he was among his compatriots.

He then won his fifth and sixth gold medals – in the Keirin and Team Sprint – becoming Great Britain’s most successful Olympic athlete of all time with six gold medals and one silver. Alongside Victoria Pendleton CBE, he was one of the stars of the velodrome.

Chris retired from competitive cycling in 2013 and his achievements throughout his career make him Scotland’s most successful Olympian, the first Briton since 1908 to win three gold medals in a single Olympic Games, and the most successful Olympic male cyclist of all time.

About Lucy Berry

Lucy Berry is an After Dinner Sales Executive who joined us in the summer of 2018, shortly after graduating from Victoria University "down under" in Melbourne. In her time at Champions Speakers, Lucy has booked the likes of Ken Segall, Simon Callow, Carol Vorderman and Gary Neville.

Prior to matching clients with top-class speakers, Lucy could be found serving cocktails to Samantha Mumba and Paul Rudd while working in Dublin. Her time in Ireland was not only spent juggling drinks, as she also made her netball debut for the Irish national team.

Lucy likes animals, especially bunnies! But she won't be feeding them courgettes anytime soon as they are the one thing she truly dislikes.
