He has coached a number of teams and athletes that have won countless medals at the most prestigious events in the world. He has trained and coached Olympic Games gold medalists, as well as Commonwealth Games and World Championship gold medalists. He was the British Triathlon’s Olympic Performance Manager for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Malcolm, who was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List in January 2013 for services to Triathlon and sport, started his career with a degree in Teaching Physical Education and English. The Olympic speaker has worked at four different universities in academic and departmental roles, including the post of Director of Sport at Leeds Metropolitan University from 2002 until 2009.
Whilst at Leeds Met he was asked if he would help two young brothers Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee improve their running speed. The two brothers are now two of the most successful triathletes of all-time. Having worked alongside the brothers for a long while, Brown has seen the two careers grow into something special. He watched them go into the history books as they won a gold and bronze respectively at the 2012 Olympic Games.
As an Olympic speaker, Malcolm is very knowledgeable on issues including the highs and lows of developing young athletes and how you can successfully deliver them into senior ranks without burnout or serious injury problems that may occur during this formative period of their sporting lives.
