Biography

Going from strength to strength, Rebecca went on won a silver medal at the Athens 2004 Olympics in the quadruple sculls, and the following year was part of the British crew that won the 2005 World Championships. Suffering from a persistent back injury, however, she retired from rowing in 2006, but her love of sport was such that she took up cycling and, before long, was competing at the highest level in her new discipline. Showcasing extreme levels of adaptability and versatility, Romero often discusses how vital it is to be able to adapt to new situations.

Rebecca enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks in track cycling, shattering British records and becoming double World Champion and Olympic Champion all within two and a half years in the sport – this made the Olympic speaker the first British athlete and only the second woman in history to medal in two different disciplines. A truly incredible achievement, Romero often talks about winning Olympic medals in two different sports and the drive and determination required to succeed. Having won a gold medal in the 2008 Olympic Games for the individual pursuit, Romero recognises the importance of peak performance and how it is vital from both a sports and business perspective.

Rebecca’s success in both rowing and cycling is proof that determination, ability and hard work will allow you to break down barriers and fulfil your dreams. The story of how she became the first British woman ever to compete in two different sports at the Olympic Games is highly motivating and inspiring, making her the perfect Olympic speaker for private events and corporate conferences. More recently, Romero has set up a business called Romero Performance which is a sports performance consultancy organisation.

"We all thought Rebecca did a good job; the tools she used were familiar to us as a business and I thought the stories were engaging and relevant. The wrap up she did was excellent and really captured the topic of the day. All in all, a really good booking."

“Rebecca presented, and then was part of an active Q&A, at our Fund launch event which involved circa 50 senior financial industry executives. In short, the event was a stand-out success, and Rebecca was a big part of this. Rebecca's edge as a speaker is her honesty, integrity and the fact that she is completely genuine. This, together with her incredible story and reflections since are very powerful. Not one single phone was looked at throughout the session, and the feedback was exceptional. One guest even said he enjoyed it more than the exceptional talk he heard from Michael Jordan."

"

“Rebecca presents her story of her extraordinary achievement of winning Olympic medals in two separate sports.  She delivers this in a very natural way and there is a vulnerability about her, which makes her very engaging.  She is very emotional which is great because the Olympics are all about emotion and passion.  All these things made her very believable and authentic.”
