Dwain has built up a reputation as a superb sprinter, culminating in his 100m personal best of 9.97 seconds in 1999. From an early age, Dwain was quickly leaving other runners behind as he sprinted to finish first place. Back in 1995 – when he was just 17 – Dwain came first in the European Junior Championships 100m and repeated the feat in 1997.
Two years later, the Olympic speaker beat everyone in the European Cup 100m, before winning a gold medal in the Goodwill Games 100m and in 2006, he came first in the World Cup 4 x 100m. In the World Indoor Championships 60m in 2008, Dwain came second but got back to his winning ways in the following year’s European Indoor Championships 60m.
Dwain has an impressive range of medals – eight gold medals, as well as four silvers and three bronzes. Dwain’s career, though it was highly successful, also had its lows. Accused of taking banned steroids before one of his races, Dwain discusses his experiences in his sports speeches, describing how he rose from criticism to finish his career with a bang. In doing so, Dwain sent “a message that you can win and break European records in the proper way”.
An expert in overcoming adversity, he can advise audiences on how they can tackle their own challenges head-on.
