Biography

Geraint started his winning streak in 2004 when he came first in the Junior World Championships and the extremely challenging Paris-Roubaix. In the same year, Geraint won the 2004 BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year as well as the Carwyn James Junior Award. In 2019, Geraint was awarded an OBE in recognition of his cycling achievements – a testament to his international success.

After joining the British Olympic Academy for Under 23s, Thomas turned professional in 2007 and became the youngest rider in the Tour de France; as well as the only Welsh rider, since 1967. Just a year later, the Olympic speaker won a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, in doing so, breaking the world record twice. In 2009, Geraint was given an MBE and achieved the fastest time in the 4km individual pursuit at the 2009 Manchester World Cup, where he won another gold medal.

At the 2012 London Olympics in the team pursuit, Geraint helped to set a new world record and win yet another gold medal. Over the course of his career, Geraint has been a member of the five fastest team pursuit times ever achieved. Continuing his success, Geraint moved to Team Sky in 2010, where he went on to win the five-day Bayern-Rundfahrt race in 2011. He won the 2012 Tour de Romandie, came second in the 2013 Bayern-Rundfahrt and defended his Volta ao Algarve title in 2016.

In his sports speeches, Geraint describes his elation at becoming the first British rider to win the Tour of the Alps in 2017, and winning the Tour de France in 2018. He can discuss such topics as peak performance and cycling to success, enthralling corporate and public audiences alike.
