Biography

Going from strength to strength, Anna then moved to Rob Roy Boat Club with the World Class Start talent identification programme run by UK sport in 2003. Anna internationally debuted at the 2004 Poland World Under 23 Regatta, where she won gold. As a sports speaker, Anna reflects upon the early period of her career, discussing with her audience the physical and mental requirements of elite sport. Anna is an expert in handling pressure, so can offer strategies to remain calm in tense situations – like competing internationally.

After a successful period in rowing, winning a bronze medal at the 2005 Amsterdam World U23 Rowing Championships, Anna moved to sculling in 2006. Partnered with Elise Laverick, the pair won bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Four years later, Anna changed partners to join Katherine Grainger on the water. The duo boasted an unbeaten season and were named World Rowing Female Crew Of The Year and The Sunday Times Women’s Sports Team of the Year in 2010.

At the 2012 London Olympics, Anna and Katherine won the gold medal in the double sculls, and broke the Olympic record. She was awarded an MBE in 2013 and retired from the British Olympic rowing programme in 2016. In her Olympic presentations, Anna discusses the personal journey that led to her retirement, which she describes as “not a decision that I’ve taken lightly. I guess I would have always wondered about what might have been if I hadn’t given it a go”.
