Biography

He won the British Super Heavyweight title in both 1997 and 1998 before claiming Commonwealth Gold in the same weight division at the Kuala Lumpur Games. After his success at the Commonwealth Games, Audley was then instrumental in the foundation of the Amateur Boxing Union of England which campaigned for the creation of boxers’ training camps designed for Commonwealth and Olympic Games boxers.

Audley continued to make an impression on the boxing world with a number of highly impressive victories. He claimed the World Federation Championship, where he overcame the unbeaten Richel Hersisia, and the European Heavyweight Championship in 2010 where he won a rematch with Michael Sprott. He landed a devastating, knockout blow in the final seconds of the final round to claim a victory deemed even more impressive as he had been fighting with just one arm after tearing his pec muscle in the third round of the bout.

Having had to overcome adversity in both his personal and professional life, the mantra of “Never Give Up” couldn’t ring truer than with Audley Harrison. It’s fair to say that Audley brought British boxing back into the limelight with his Olympic gold medal and has a truly inspiring story to tell. From his time before boxing to his Olympic legacy, professional career and charity work after retirement, Audley makes for a great Olympic speaker whether to businesses or the younger generation as he has the skills and experience to both inspire and motivate an audience.
