Delicious Orie was born in Moscow to a Nigerian father and Russian mother, moving to the UK at the age of seven after experiencing racism and social exclusion. Settling in Wolverhampton, he adapted quickly to a new culture, language and education system, excelling academically while developing a strong sense of discipline and self-belief. Sport became an outlet, first through basketball, where he competed at regional level and pursued ambitions of a US scholarship. When passport and residency barriers blocked that path, Delicious was forced to rethink his future early, learning how to adapt, reset goals and stay focused despite circumstances beyond his control.
Delicious discovered boxing at 18 and progressed at remarkable speed. Within three years he was selected for the Team GB Boxing World Class Programme, training full time at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. Eligibility challenges continued, including a legal battle to secure his British passport, yet his focus never wavered. He achieved gold at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, followed by gold at the 2023 European Games, confirming his status as one of Britain’s leading super-heavyweights. These performances secured his place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he represented Great Britain on the global stage, competing with composure under intense pressure.
Alongside elite sport, Delicious remained committed to education and long-term planning. He graduated with a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Economics and Management, balancing academic excellence with the demands of international competition. Known for his analytical approach, he often draws parallels between elite performance and economics, viewing success as the result of discipline, calculated risk and consistency over time. After Paris 2024, he turned professional, signing with Frank Warren’s Queensbury Promotions, and won his professional debut before making the bold decision to step away from boxing.
Today, Delicious is forging a second career in financial services as a Trainee Financial Adviser, working towards chartered and fellowship status within a regulated industry. This transition gives him a distinctive voice as a speaker, combining Olympic experience with commercial insight and real-world decision making. His talks resonate with business, leadership and professional audiences, exploring themes of resilience, identity, purpose and knowing when to pivot.
