Biography

Jackie Joyner-Kersee is a talented athlete who specialises in heptathlons and long jump. Throughout the course of her illustrious career, Jackie has won the heart of the nation and has even been voted the Greatest Female Athlete of the 20th Century. From Olympic Games to World Championships, Jackie has an impressive medal tally to her name and continues to be a figure of inspiration to budding stars of the future.

From a young age, Jackie possessed a talent for sports, first competing in athletics whilst she was a student at high school. Jackie was in fact so talented that she was given the opportunity to compete at the 1980 Olympic trials in the long jump. Unfortunately, Jackie finished in 8th place, but she was inspired to continue in athletics. Later attending the University of California, Jackie began training for the Olympics once again and went on to compete in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Here she claimed her first Olympic victory, taking home a silver medal in the heptathlon.

Her first Olympic success laid the foundation of an immensely successful career, and today stands Jackie as a role model in her sport. Her next competition came at the 1986 Goodwill Games, claiming gold in the heptathlon after she scored over 7000 points. As time when on, Jackie proved that she was a force to be reckoned with, and by the end of her career had claimed an impressive 12 gold medalsone silver medal and two bronze medals and was fortunate to compete in six Olympic Games.

Outside of long jump and heptathlons, Jackie has also enjoyed a professional basketball career. She played in the American Basketball League, making 17 game appearances before returning to her beloved track events in athletics. Jackie has broken records with her talents, and is still the world record holder for the heptathlon. Jackie has also claimed the Honda Sports award 1983 and 1985, the Jesse Owens Award 1986 and 1987, the James E Sullivan Award 1986 and voted the Greatest Female Athlete of the 20th Century by Sports Illustrated.

Today, Jackie is highly sought as a public speaker for both corporate and sporting events. Whether she be delivering an entertaining after-dinner tale or motivating audiences with lessons of drive and perseverance, Jackie is guaranteed to be a hit with all audience members. A figure of immense sporting success, Jackie is a favourite for an Olympic speaker at events.
