Biography

The older brother of the prolific tennis player Andy Murray, Jamie Murray OBE is best known for his talent in mixed doubles tennis. Both a recognisable and prominent player, Jaime has won numerous titles and played at Grand Slam tournaments including the US Open and Wimbledon. A consistent world-class player, Jaime is well respected in the tennis world with impeccable performances year upon year.

Tennis has been a prominent passion of Jaime’s since he was a young boy, finishing as a runner up in the Junior Orange Bowl when he was just 11 years old. Aged 13, he became the World number 2 junior tennis player, and at the 2004 Junior US Open, he joined his brother to deliver impeccable teamwork and finish as semi-finalists. His love for tennis continued and he began to forge a career in the sport.

The first highlight of his adult career came at the 2007 Wimbledon tournament. Playing in the mixed doubles, Jamie delivered an impressive performance which landed him the win and the title of 2007 Wimbledon mixed doubles champion. After impressing at Wimbledon, Jamie had the chance to join his brother at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in the mixed doubles. At the 2008 US Open Jamie had the chance to play alongside Liezel Huber and reached the final, however, unfortunately, the pair were beaten.

In 2010 Jamie earned his place to compete at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, playing in singles matches for Scotland. Jamie continued to play in a number of high profile competitions such as the US Open and Brisbane Internationals, with his next victory coming in 2015 when he became the 2015 Davis Cup champion. After this win, Jamie won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show’s 2015 Team of the Year award.

The next three years were extremely prominent and successful for Jamie, winning a succession of titles to add to his collection. It all began with his victory at the 2016 US Open, where he became the 2016 US Open mixed doubles champion. Also in 2016 Jamie was awarded the honour of OBE in the 2016 Birthday Honours, and also had the chance to compete at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. 2017 brought more success, retaining his title with 2017 US Open mixed doubles champion. Jamie attended the 2017 Wimbledon tournament, claiming the title of Wimbledon 2017 mixed doubles champion after winning it 10 years previously. Later in 2018, he retained his US Open title once more, bringing home the win of the 2018 US Open mixed doubles champion.

Jamie is evidently a committed and driven sportsman with passion behind every match that he plays in. With a victorious history in the sport, Jamie is hoping for further success at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and is also a perfect candidate for Olympic speaking.
