Biography

Matt Weston is a history-making English skeleton racer and double Olympic champion whose meteoric rise has redefined British success in winter sport. Crowned Olympic gold medallist in both the men’s and mixed team events, he became the first Briton to win two gold medals at a Winter Olympic Games. A World and European Champion and three-time overall World Cup winner, Matt stands among the most decorated athletes in skeleton history. His achievements have positioned him not only as a dominant force on the ice track but also as one of Britain’s most compelling high-performance role models.

Matt’s journey into elite sport began through UK Sport’s Discover Your Gold initiative, a talent identification programme designed to uncover future champions. Identified as a natural fit for skeleton, he made his competitive debut in 2019 and wasted little time making an impact. The following season, he claimed his first World Cup medal with a silver finish, the highest placing by a British male slider in a decade. In 2021, he secured his first World Cup gold medal in a dramatic three-way victory, signalling his arrival as a serious international contender. Although he placed 15th at the 2022 Winter Olympics, the setback proved catalytic. The next season, he became European Champion and claimed his first World Championship title, only the second British man ever to do so.

Momentum continued to build. In 2024, Matt captured the overall World Cup title, becoming the first British man in 16 years to win the series, before earning a second World Championship crown and becoming Britain’s first two-time world skeleton champion. His defining moment came at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, where he set a new track record on each of his four runs to become the first British male Olympic champion in skeleton. He then secured a second gold in the mixed team event, making him the first Briton to win two gold medals at a Winter Olympics and the only athlete to hold Olympic, World, European and World Cup titles simultaneously.

Featured across the BBC, The Telegraph and Sky Sports, Matt is recognised as a trailblazer whose career exemplifies resilience, marginal gains and elite preparation. As a speaker, he translates lessons from high-pressure competition into practical insight on goal setting, overcoming setbacks and sustaining world-class performance. Whether inspiring young athletes or motivating corporate audiences, Matt Weston delivers a powerful message about turning potential into podium success.
