Biography

Stef Reid is a distinguished British Paralympic long jumper who has earned five world records, a World Championship and three Paralympic medals. The elite athlete has performed at the highest levels of sport, most recently participating in the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games. Having announced her retirement in 2022, she is now highly sought after by prominent clients, including McLaren, Google, Virgin Media, Sky and Nissan, for speaking engagements, where she delivers impactful presentations on resilience, motivation, high performance and adaptive mindset, applying her knowledge of elite sports to the business world.

From an early age, Stef dreamt of becoming a world-renowned rugby player with a desire to appear on the world stage. Whilst working towards her goal, at 15 years of age, she was involved in a devastating boat accident, which resulted in the amputation of her right foot. A terrifying ordeal but one that Stef overcame with a positive mindset and awe-inspiring resilience. Putting her focus on her studies, she graduated valedictorian in high school, gaining a full scholarship to Queen’s University, Canada.

At university, she studied Biochemistry with the hope of attending medical school after graduating. However, whilst completing her studies, she joined the athletics team. A naturally gifted athlete, this decision became a turning point in her life, which led her back to her initial dream of becoming an elite athlete. Over the next 18 years, Stef became a leading Paralympic long jumper, earning several medals and cementing her name in Paralympic history. Although officially retired from elite sports in 2022, Stef continues to make headlines with her inspiring feats, most recently appearing on Dancing on Ice.

The inspiring athlete also became the first amputee to walk the London Fashion Week Catwalk and has been featured in British Vogue Magazine. Now an accomplished broadcaster, fashion model and executive coach, Stef also covered the Invictus Games for the BBC and the Tokyo Paralympics for Channel 4. In 2020, she delivered a powerful presentation at TEDxLondonWomen titled Why Accessible Design is For Everyone, emphasising the need for accessible design. An eloquent speaker with an impressive athletic career, Stef speaks on high performance, failure, motivation and resilience, translating lessons learned from her journey as an elite Paralympian to the business world.

“Stef delivered an absolutely magnificent opening speech at our annual Leadership conference in London this year [May 2022]. Through a series of powerful personal stories, she engaged with the audience on how to build an Adaptive Mindset and turn setbacks and personal differences to your advantage. With Equality & Inclusion at the core of our company values, Stef’s story around exploring the biases and assumptions that might hold us back was a perfect match. She had a natural ability to grip the audience from start to finish and was the talk of the event during the evening dinner. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an external speaker to light up the room”.
