Olympic speaker and former javelin thrower Fatima Whitbread MBE has 10 competition medals to her name – and only two of them are bronze. Prior to her retirement, Fatima is one of only two women ever to throw a javelin over 75 metres. Thanks to her media career, Fatima is both a popular speaker and event host, featuring at events up and down the country.
Fatima’s best year was undoubtedly 1987, when she became World Champion and was voted Sportswoman of the Year. This was the second gold medal Fatima had won, the other one gained a year earlier at the 1986 Stuttgart European Championships, where she broke the world record with a javelin throw of 77.44m. The Olympic speaker did her country proud when she appeared at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984, Fatima Whitbread won a bronze medal and at the next Games in Seoul, she earned a silver.
