Biography

One of sports genuine gentlemen, Jonathan was the world record holder in the triple jump for more than 20 years and he has been Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European champion – at one point in 2002, he held the top slot in all four. An outstanding sportsman, Edwards now spends his time motivating audiences across the world with his powerful after-dinner speeches. Touching on topics like peak performance, his speeches really do grip an audience.

Representing Great Britain in the Olympic Games, the Olympic legend won the silver medal in Atlanta in 1996 and went one better at the Sydney 2000 games. At the World Championships in 1995 and 2001, Jonathan won gold medals and he won a silver at the 1997 Athens games. He also got two bronzes in 1993 and 1999.

Jonathan Edwards’ other gold medals – he won six in all – were won at the European Championships in Budapest in 1998, the European Indoor Championships in Valencia in the same year, and at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, where he competed for England. Having been successful throughout his career, Edwards is considered an expert in maximising success and peak performance, two topics he regularly speaks about.

When he retired in 2003, Edwards was Britain’s most successful medal-winning athlete. He went on to become a TV presenter and sports commentator, president of the Wenlock Olympian Society and a key member of the organising committee for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
