Biography

Former British Olympian, Marlon Devonish MBE specialised in the 100m and 200m sprints and is now a popular and much sought after motivational sports speaker. A four-time World Champion and Olympic gold medallist, he is a leading expert on topics including peak performance, endurance, teamwork and overcoming adversity. Using his experience as an elite athlete and some little known tales of top athletes, his speeches are known as being inspiring and engaging, leaving a lasting impression on whoever he speaks to.

During his early career, Marlon enjoyed success as a junior winning many school and junior competitions. He competed at the British and Commonwealth Games and became a regular feature for the English 4 x 100m sprint relay team at the Commonwealth Games. Along with his teammates, he also became the Commonwealth record holder at the same event, a record that is he still holds.

At his very first games at the Athens 2004 Olympics, he won gold as part of the men’s 4 x 100m relay team. He and teammates Darren Campbell, Jason Gardener and Mark Lewis-Francis, ran an almost perfect race and managed to beat the much favoured US team by just 0.01 seconds. Soon after, at the British Championships in 2006, Marlon became the first British man since 1988 to claim victory at both the 100m and 200m. He successfully defended his 100m the following year and with a new personal best. Devonish enjoyed further success at the Manchester City Games in 2009, taking silver to the World’s fastest man, Usain Bolt. This was followed by a bronze medal for Devonish at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin.

Following his athletics career, Devonish has turned his hand to coaching, such as the Gloucester Rugby team. He also works as the high-performance coach for the British International School in Shanghai. As a sports speaker, he uses his insight and experience of elite sprinting to help corporate teams achieve peak performance and develop their mental resilience. He inspires his audience to aim beyond what they think is possible, and achieve in business what only a few have achieved on the track.
